16 Summer Activities To Embrace the Heat or Beat the Heat!


Hello, Summer!

School is out, and you know what that means! It’s Summertime! There are so many things to do in the Summer, but sometimes it’s hard to think of what to do. Here are some ideas of ways you can beat the heat or soak it up with some fun Summer activities!

Embrace the Heat

  • Go to the pool! You can lounge by the side while you read or listen to music, or hop in and enjoy cooling off in the water. Make sure to check out your local recreation center’s calendar, because many have free swim days too!
  • Go on a hike! If you live near the mountains, go on a new hike or hike your favorite trail. If you don’t live near any mountains or hills, go for a walk in nature! There are so many to being in nature. It improves mental and physical health, boosts cognitive abilities, and so much more. For some bonus views, go early in the morning to catch the sunrise!
  • Go to a lake or beach! There are so many fun things to do on the lake. Take a picnic, paddleboard, go boating, kayak, fish… the possibilities are endless. Soak up the rays on a sandy beach, collect seashells, swim around, or play some sports on the beach. Remember to bring sunscreen!
  • Have a picnic or barbeque! Grab some family or friends and make some delicious food. Or, go by yourself and enjoy some time connecting with yourself and nature. 
  • Attend cultural events! There are countless music festivals, concerts, plays, and markets in the Summer. Enjoy a new culture or some art!
  • Go to a local farmer’s market! There are so many options at farmer’s markets. Go ready to shop or just look around at all the produce and creative products.
  • Play some sports! There are so many fun sports to play in the Summer: basketball, pickleball, tennis, Spikeball, frisbee, soccer, volleyball… the list goes on and on!
  • Draw with chalk! Channel your inner artist and make some chalk creations! Some cities also host chalk competitions you could check out. 

Beat the Heat

  • Bake and cook! Try a new recipe, or stick with your favorite. You could even try a Summer-themed recipe. Stay cool by making cold treats like drinks or smoothies!
  • Workout indoor! There are so many at-home workout tutorials available. Take some time to try one out from the comfort of your home!
  • Create some crafts! There are millions of DIY projects and crafts for kids and adults alike. Buy some supplies or do a craft with things you already have. 
  • Watch a movie or TV show! Kick back and relax while you watch something fun. Add a few snacks and some blankets, and you can make a whole movie night out of it! 
  • Play some board games or do some puzzles! Play a single-player game or grab some family and friends to play with you. 
  • Write! Write in a journal, write down some goals and wishes you have, or try writing a poem. If you’re feeling ambitious, try writing a book! It could be anything from a short story to an epic novel to a tome!
  • Read! Cuddle up with a good book and get lost in the story, check out some newspapers or news articles, or read some blog posts! ;)
  • Relax! Take some time to take care of yourself. Have a spa day: take a long bath, use a face or hair mask, and just relax. You can also do yoga or meditate! Everyone needs to take time to relax once in a while!
