My husband and I have recovered a lot from CFS/ME symptoms after living in a badly moldy home. It's been 6 years since we left. We still have some lingering issues and decided to get OAT tests last year. Though our OAT test results were different, they both indicated a lack of carnitine.
I had been given "L-carnitine" in the past by a naturopath with no result. After the OAT results and then doing more reading on carnitine forms, I decided to try Acetyl L-Carnitine instead. My goodness - the results were amazing. We both had more energy, and for the last year we've taken it everyday. It's the sort of result that keeps you from forgetting!
Now, a little over a year after taking it, my husband has reduced his does and doesn't need it everyday. I still take the same amount, but I find I can skip days without that downward slide. This is one of those things I wish I had discovered years ago. The Nutricost brand of acetyl l-carnitine is the one we've taken this whole time. I had never tried Nutricost before this, and was a little skeptical of the brand at first. But I'm glad I tried it. Now we use other powders of theirs, and I've never had a food reaction or problem with them.
